These Ink and wax pastel paintings are the first in a series exploring the relationship between drummers, dancers and fire. Archival matting , framing and non glare acrylic glazing.
I did a series of wearable/functional masks in 2000. Nanahuatzin is not as well known as some other forms but very important in Aztecan creation mythology. He is shown here wearing humble ornaments of raffia, clay beads and elaborately burnt wood in accordance with mythological sources.
This fully functional/wearable mask of the Aztecan Goddess, Coatlique, has been in my private collection since I created it. Her Head piece and ear ornaments are highly detailed in gold leaf, polymer clay millefleur and individually placed feathers.
Since I am no longer working in oil paints I kept this particular piece in my personal reserve collection for some time. This bold and evocative piece has been one of my all time favorites for many years. Studio Framed.
